In a similar way, we should think about how we can continually strengthen our career balance sheet which we then actively leverage to further advance our career. The track record of achievements that you have worked hard to accomplish is a major career asset. Think of this as an asset that you continually grow as you add more and more to the list of achievements.
The portfolio of skills and competencies that you progressively build is another important career asset. You are of interest to a new boss or new employer precisely because you bring these “career assets” with you so that you can add value to the new organization. As we expand our business experience, we build networks of relationships. These all add up to a rich set of friendships and relationships that are helpful at one stage or another in our careers.
